About Martin Chu Shui
Martin Chu Shui writes fiction shaped by a long-standing interest in consciousness, time, artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial intelligence and Taoist thought. His stories move between speculative fiction, fantasy and reimagined Chinese legend, but return to a common question: how certain can we be about the reality we think we understand?
His latest novel, The Thirteenth Dream, explores AI, consciousness, grief and fractured reality. He is currently developing The Marked Path trilogy, a larger speculative-fiction story about consciousness, identity, human agency and what happens when the boundary between our own thoughts and something unknown begins to disappear.
Why “Chu Shui”?
Chu Shui — 秋水 — means Autumn Water. The name comes from Autumn Water, a chapter of the ancient Daoist text Zhuangzi. Martin chose it both for the ideas behind the chapter and because Autumn Water can sound naturally like a Chinese personal name.
